Root Canal Therapy
What is a root canal?
A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.
At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection/Inflammation of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection/inflammation can include swelling, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.
If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment. We use local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. In addition, nitrous oxide analgesia is available, if indicated. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.
To provide you with a better understanding of endodontic therapy, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to root canals are discussed.

What happens after treatment?
When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration immediately after completion of treatment at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.
How much will it cost?
The cost associated with this procedure can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

Dr. Aviles and his team are top notch. From the warm welcome you get on the phone when you schedule your appointment all the way through to the post-procedure check-up call, they're kind, courteous and professional. I can't say enough good things about this team.

Best experience I have ever had having dental work performed. Although I have had root canal work done before by other dentists, this was by far the most professional, thorough and relatively painless procedure I have ever had.

Thank god for laughing gas, I am so glad we did that! It totally helped calm my anxiety which was way worse than the actual process.

Dr. Aviles was very gentle. So gentle, I dozed off a few times. During the dreaded root canal, I dozed! I was told by the assistant, she would hold my hand if need be. Since I was dozing, I was unaware if I needed my hand held. From the front desk to all those I spoke to in the office, my overall visit was great. That reflects directly to Dr. Aviles. Thank you so much, Nereus

Dr Aviles was great. His priority was getting the correct procedure done if needed. In my case a root canal was not needed at the time, he let me know that and did a great job explaining why and what to look for in the future. As someone with numerous dental issues (and occasionally dentist issues), I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for root canal work. Best experience I've had in a long time.

I have been to many dentists in the last 60 years. This is my second root canal. I don't believe that you can find a more proficient dentist with excellent bedside manner. I give Dr. Aviles an A+++ (which is the highest marks possible.)
- Sally R
It is with great pleasure to write this endorsement of Dr. Aviles and his whole office staff. They couldn't be more sincere and genuinely interested in the patient. Everyone without exception makes the patient feel comfortable while waiting to be seen by Dr. Aviles.

I love Dr. A. Anytime my Dentist refers me to Dr A, I know I'll be taken care of. Dr A does everything he can to ensure I'm comfortable during the most extreme procedures. He even spent 6 separate visits trying to fix a tooth that had been neglected by other dentists for years, but he only charged me for 1 visit (sans nitrous, of course). I can't thank Dr. A Enough!!!
